Looking back over 2009

Hello Everyone and Happy New Year!
Looking back over 2009, I am reminded that it is not how hard we work or how fast, but it is
what we can do in our hearts that truly matters. This was evidenced by our tremendous success
at the end of last year. In December, the 3rd Annual Shoe Hunt raised over $2800. The following
week, Santa called with a $7000 matching fund challenge. We raised over $10,000 in December
alone!
In December, January, and February, we granted Gifts of Love to 10 more families struggling
through cancer. Each family was so appreciative of our support and thanked us generously.

Dear Chix 4 a Cause Supporter,
Let me start with GOOD NEWS! Our Aug. 15th “Street Party” raised $6,250 —and it was
only our first year! Many thanks to all the volunteers that helped make it happen, especially Kurt
Allison. Plans are already in the works for next year—we’re looking at location options and there
is even talk of possibly adding a poker run . . . so stay tuned!
We are always looking for new ways to help raise funds for our Gift of Love program.
Developing partnerships with different organizations, companies and groups is a great way
to increase support. And, it’s an added bonus when the organizations, companies, and groups
contact us offering their own ideas to support Chix 4 a Cause.

What can I do?

Dear Chix 4 a Cause Supporter,
Five years ago, I never imagined that I would be writing a newsletter, much less having the
opportunity to touch so many lives in such a profound way. It has only been possible because
of you: the Chix 4 a Cause volunteers, committee and board members, and supporters.
In 2004, three of my friends and my grandmother were diagnosed with cancer. When cancer
becomes part of your life, there is so much to deal with that it’s overwhelming. My friends had
many questions, concerns, and fears: “Where do I begin? What do I do? Where can I go for
help? How sick will I be? Will I lose my hair? Will my insurance pay for everything?” As their
friend, I felt helpless. I couldn’t possibly answer these questions. I continuously asked myself,
What can I do?
My answer came one day while I was thinking of the four women in my life
who were dealing with cancer, and I wrote down the words “Chix 4 a Cause.”
